Act of Worship

When we sacrifice ourselves for others, our lives become a offering of worship to a Saviour who laid down His life for us so that we might learn to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.

Act of Worship

I came before the Holy Mountain
And soon my heart was set ablaze,
The scorching flames cause so much pain
And yet, in awe I bow in praise…

I’m now a living sacrifice
Defined as silver being refined,
The tears are poured out in my life
So love may all the brighter shine,

And as I reach out for the hand
Of He who cleans me from my dross,
At last my blindness passes by
And I see joy amid the cross:

Almighty God has made me His
And He is walking by my side,
Through sacrifice we walk in love;
It was for this He died.

Gratitude in the Desert

I'm learning to give thanks in the midst of trials this year. In spite of how I feel, I choose to give thanks for the blessings God gives, and even the trials themselves, knowing that God has them in my life for a reason.

Gratitude in the Desert

So far I’ve marched without a rest
Though deserts pleading for a storm—
A throat that’s parched can only croak
The words I need to say today—

I have to say them now in faith,
’Cause I can’t see the rain around me,
So I obey, and feebly cry
What’s more a plea than a shout of praise:

“Oh thank you, Father, for your love”—
And as I raise my head in praise
I taste Your water on my lips
And feel Your grace poured out on me.

Chasing Dreams

I believe that we need to die to our personal dreams before God will make them come true. But at the same time, Christ gives us dreams that He calls us to pursue with all the strength He has given us.

Chasing Dreams

Be careful when you walk on ice,
Because what seems safe may be thin;
You are at risk of falling in
When chasing dreams that are your own;

But if it’s Jesus calling you
Then even waves can hold your feet,
And every barrier you meet
Will be engraved with steps of faith.

The Love of God

This poem was inspired by a friend who reminded me once again of the awesome power of God's love.

The Love of God

The love of God comes crashing down
And sweeps our broken hearts away;
In vain we build our sandbag walls
To keep the waves of love at bay—

The flood will purge our darkened souls
And we’ll be washed by storms of tears—
But bands of color cross the sky:
A life of joy and hope appears;

When we embrace the surging waves
We find new life beyond our dreams
As Christ himself resides within
A heart the love of God made clean.

Love Your Neighbor

I believe that we don't have to go anywhere to be a missionary. God wants us to be missionaries right where He has placed us. If we are faithful here, then maybe He will send us out to be a light for in in other lands.

Love Your Neighbor

The splinters that surround us speak
Of fields of newly ripened corn;
We do not have to cross the globe
To find those set to be reborn—

The shattered hearts cry out for love,
But we so quickly pass them by;
When will we see we hold the salve
For which their dying souls have cried?

The fields are ready in our towns,
If we can see the pain they bear;
It’s love they need, not our rejection—
Are we the priest who didn’t care?

But if we can become the neighbor
Who helped the beaten man find rest,
Through us they’ll see our Savior
Bestowing love on the oppressed;

If we can piece their hearts together
Through us they’ll feel Christ’s gentle hands;
And when they see He lives today
They’ll gladly follow His commands—

If we can learn to step in faith
Where Christ positioned us today,
It is our lives that serve as guides
To help them find the narrow way.

The Golden Path

This poem was written in response to both what God's been doing in my life and what God's been doing in a friend's life over the past couple of months. Walking in faith is very difficult, but there is joy in the journey far beyond anything else we can find.

The Golden Path

To walk the golden path
I step out of the boat;
I’ve left behind the things I’ve loved
And pray that somehow I will float—

My tears are chasing me,
My fears are all around,
The price is more than I can pay
I long again for solid ground—

But on the golden path
I find that at my side
Is Jesus, who called out to me;
Though I am lost, He’ll be my guide—

This path is full of joy
For they who take His hand;
We walk together to the sun—
It’s God Himself who’s at the end…
