Unspoken

What kept your mouth from opening?
The treasures of infinity
Were yours to share with those around you;
You could have laid the blueprint out
To smash the accusations
And dam the daggers from their mouths…

Was your heart scarred worse than your back?
They called you names to paint you black,
And yet you would not draw your sword
And did not even speak a word
But took their daggers like a king
Who need not prove the throne is his…

It hurts the way they taunt you,
It hurts to not defend yourself,
It hurts to let the lies be spoken
And not let truth commend yourself,

But I will take this heavy cross
And let my pride be counted lost…

Aromatic

The scents of heaven tantalize—
The aromatic fragrance of love
As hearts touch hearts and souls are bound,
And peace is queen of all affairs;

But here I stand with dirty hands,
And try to wipe the stench off me—
The stench of walking through the streets
Where hearts are broken, no one cares;

I add more to the malodor
As I crush others with my pride,
Each smell adds horror to each other
And fills the senses with despair—

But if I follow sweeter smells
And chase aromas to their source,
The perfume overwhelms my heart
And love extracts the stench I wear!

The scents of heaven stain my life,
A heart that has been touched by God,
And in the streets I bring the fragrance
The love of God to share…

The Tastes of Heaven

After Emily Dickinson

“’Tis beggars banquets best define”—
But I have prayed for riches;
“’Tis thirsting vitalizes wine”—
But I have washed myself in scum;
If tastes that heaven has prepared
Are savored ’Cause of trials we bear,
Then why do I beg for release?

“’Tis beggars banquets best define”—
May I take joy in poverty!
“’Tis thirsting vitalizes wine”—
So let me wait for feasts to dine;
I shall embrace the dancing flames
So deeper life is mine to claim,
And in the pain I’m finding peace…
