Drops of Salve

This poem is a tribute to the benefits of tears.

Drops of Salve

We wipe our tears away
As if we were ashamed,
But tears are drops of salve
Through which there’s much we gain:

Each teardrop spilling over
Brings sympathy to fruit;
Compassion’s felt the strongest
Where pain was most acute;

Each drop that fills the eyes
Refines the soul through fire;
Like rain upon the trees
It helps the spirit higher;

Each tear that flows through pain
That comes from sacrifice
Fuels love that burns the brighter
Revealing life to seeking eyes…

Tug-Of-War

Sometimes we can get caught up in debates that don't really mean anything. We need to move away from trying to “win” the debate and instead strive to seek truth together.

Tug-Of-War

We play a game of tug-of-war:
I try to drag you ’cross the line,
But find myself face-down in mud,
And all my nagging won my shame—

It’s sad we spend our time in battles
To try to pull each other down,
There are so many walls before us
Which take us all to work together—

If we can learn to work as one
And laid aside our tug-of-war,
We’ll see that naught can stand against us
When we abide in Christ with love.

The First Snowfall

It seems like athere are poems that can be almost prophetic at times... I wrote this poem about a year ago, and yet it describes quite well what God's been doing in my life since Thanksgiving.

The First Snowfall

The sacrifice is over,
And all the leaves are dead;
What once was full of color
Are grays and browns instead,

And now my heart is mourning,
My tears regret the loss,
I feel the painful burning
That travels with the cross;

But in the midst of sorrow,
An angel calls my name—
I see the winter’s herald,
And peace engulfs the pain,

When white has drowned the sorrow
A glorious light appears:
Through love I find a comfort,
For God is with me here!

Seeing His Faithfulness

I was reminded this week of God’s faithfulness. He will never let us down.

Seeing His Faithfulness

We complain because we do not know the way,
But God reveals the path
The moment it is clear—
We see His faithfulness again…

We complain because our dreams have gone to sleep
But God brings them to life
When every piece is in place—
We see His faithfulness again…

We complain because the trials burn our hearts
But God soon snuffs the fire
And lo! What’s left is gold—
We see His faithfulness again…

The Fools of God

Sometimes in my attempts to walk by faith I can feel like a fool. But the wisdom of God is foolishness to men, so if I am a fool who is following Christ I will see victory in ways I've never dreamed of.

The Fools of God

The screaming voices echoing:
“You fool!” is their heart-piercing cry—
And as the walls of darkness came
I knew the time had come to die…

A fool to step on water,
A fool to break the worldly rules—
But since it’s Jesus I have followed,
Then I am simply God’s own fool…

What happens to the fools of God,
The ones that have been called insane?
They’re put to death upon a cross
And bear a load of unjust blame…

What happens to the fools of God,
Once they are laid into the tomb?
They taste a victory so great
That splinters every door of doom!
