Sacrificial Love
I'm going to post a more personal poem that I wrote for my girl. I'm sharing it because I want to encourage everyone, married, single, or committed, that true love is expressed by sacrifice, giving of yourself for someone else...
The rugged silhouette stands black
Against a sky becoming dark;
A broken man on an ugly cross—
Where all the eye can see is hate…
But if your heart looks at the scene
Perhaps you’ll see there’s something more—
It was for love this man has died
To set men free with love and grace…
Beloved, though the sky is dark
And it is pain that rules this day—
It is my love that pays the price
So I abstain from my desires…
Because I love you, I will give
The sacrifice I make with love;
I’ll give whatever’s best for you,
And pay the price that love requires…
I’ll lay my life down at your feet,
With love so deep it gives it all—
And then, dear, when the sun returns
I know we’ll reap love’s fruit of joy…
