End of the Rope

This poem was written for anyone who is losing hope, and is filled with despair...

End of the Rope

You’ve reached the end of the rope—
Your strength is fading fast,
Your hope has fallen on the rocks
Your dreams betrayed you to your fate…

Despair is pulling you,
And death is waiting down below,
’Tis now you need a savior—
It seems that fate will not provide one…

But miracles still happen—
Infinity has reached you,
And in the midst of brokenness
Will you but see the nail-scarred hands?

To whom else can you go?
Before you seize despair
I pray instead you’ll reach for Jesus,
Who heard your pleas, and comes to save you—

Though death has captured all you love
Christ has defeated death itself,
And nothing can divide you from Him
Once you are seated in your Savior’s arms.

Why God Allows Pain

I'm going through a time of a lot of pain and grief in my life right now. But I still believe that God is using the pain for my good, like a father disciplining his child.

Why God Allows Pain

A plant that never tasted rain,
An athlete that never stretched,
Ore that never walked through fire,
So would I be without trials…

You prune a tree, it gives more fruit,
You bury a seed, it grows a plant,
And I’m made stronger through the trials…

Why does God allow pain in my life?
Because
He loves me.

A Race I Cannot Win

Sometimes we find ourselves running from something that we can’t escape and running a race that we can’t win. But through the running we find the One who can give us strength to free us from what chases us.

A Race I Cannot Win

I run from what I can’t escape,
I flee from dreams as fast as light;
I’m in a race I cannot win
But God keeps calling me to fight—

I’ve given in, I can’t go on,
A sense of hopelessness has come,
But still the Spirit pushes me
To drop my fearfulness and run…

Then with a final effort
I give it all, and sprinting hard
I fall across the finish line
Into my Father’s arms…

A Billion Stars

Whenever you wonder whether God will really fulfill His promises, remember God's impossible promise to Abraham, which He made come true. He is faithful, even when it is hard to see how He could be.

A Billion Stars

I see you there, alone, unsure,
You hold a promise in your hand
And stand beneath a billion stars,
But so much you can’t understand—

A barren wife will bear a child?
It is impossible, I know,
But don’t forget God brought you here
When you had gone where He had showed;

Look to the stars—each one’s a promise—
Keep clinging to the hope they share;
Remember God’s almighty hand,
’Cause He is answering your prayers…

I’m waiting here, alone, unsure,
I hold a promise in my hand
And stand beneath a billion stars—
God has something awesome planned!

Drowning

I've found that one of the best ways to get out of discouragement is to go encourage someone else.

Drowning

The waves roll over me;
My impulse is to scream,
To flail my arms in panic,
To hang onto my dreams;

But then I loosed my dreams
And took a hold of you,
To drag you to the surface
As you were drowning, too,

I pulled you to the sand
And found upon the shore
Through giving aid to you
It’s me who was blessed more.

At the Edge of Forever

On the twenty-fourth of June my younger sister was betrothed to be married. I wrote this poem in honor of this event in their lives.

At the Edge of Forever

We’re standing at the edge and know
Before our feet extends forever.
We know that if we take the plunge
We can’t retreat from what may come;

We’ll never see this ledge again,
Our lives will never be the same;
We know that if we take the plunge
The choice will sever ties of old;

But on the edge we know it’s true
So much we’ve longed for lies ahead—
And we will choose to dare the dive,
For love is found within the depths.
