What is Faith?

This poem was written in response to the question “What is faith?”

What is Faith?

To step on water even though
You know it cannot hold your weight,
Because it’s Jesus calling you
All former fears and doubts abate—

To grasp your cross and follow Him
Though all the world calls you a fool;
When laws of fame have held you back,
To cut your chains and break the rules—

To mount the walls few souls have dared,
To fight the sins which throw you down;
To walk ’round cities seven times,
Then join the Church for the attack—

To taste a glimpse of glory
That far exceeds where Moses stood,
To follow in Christ’s footsteps
And see the face of God!

I love the first paragraph. It's so true. I remember writing a story once several years ago and asking the main character asking that same question. What is faith? The picture that came to my mind was jumping off a cliff into the deep, dark unknown and trusting that God will be there to catch you, to provide for you. One of my favorite Bible verses that has given me a lot of hope for the future is Jeremiah 29:11:

"For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you a not to harm you, for a hope and a future."

I really like that poem...been thinking a lot about faith lately, myself. Every time you step out and do something "abnormal" it's an act of faith. 'Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.' I don't have to see what God's doing in my life...I just have to trust, knowing He'll make His plans clear, in His time. Faith is exciting, an adventure...but still not always easy. :-) Okay, enough ramble for a comment. ;-)

BTW, congrats on becoming debt free!

Blessings,

Those are both really neat pictures of faith. I like to think of myself like Peter, when Jesus called Him to step on the water - sure, it is terrifying to think of stepping out on water, but still I choose to step forward, knowing that Jesus is calling me, and He will care for me.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts!
