#4 - Looking to the West
“Maybe when the door of happiness closes, another opens, but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the one which has been opened for us.”
This poem has been an inspiring reminder that God still has unexpected blessings planned for me in spite of the times when doors have closed...
Looking To the West
I saw the sun flee in the west,
And so I followed with my eyes
Like puppies chasing after it
As if somehow they’d reach the sky.
With eyes attached to the horizon
I’d wait, a faithful hound bereft
Of so much happiness I cherished,
And watch the place where it had left—
But once a door has closed in life
It seldom opens any more—
Though we are often blind to it
God brings us joy through different doors—
And once again, so foolishly,
My eyes are looking to the west,
But when the sunlight taps my shoulder,
I know God’s answered my request.

That was great- and so true that God will open other doors for us, but we often spend such a long time staring at the closed one. I like the imagery in this one a lot, also.

I'm still learning to work past that. In my humanness I am often so sure that God's plan is to reopen the closed door, not open a new door!

The imagery used in the last stanza is still some of my favorite imagery. I love the picture of sunlight tapping me on the shoulder and letting me know of all God has done in His perfect plan...
