If Man Has Ever Loved

I wrote this one for a poetry challenge at FaithWriters...

If Man Has Ever Loved

If love is weighed by pounding hearts,
By blooming sparks which fill the sky,
If love’s conveyed by flowery rhymes,
If man has ever loved—then so have I…

If love has flowed where dreams abound,
If hearts have climbed on mountains high,
If love has showed the paths of bliss,
If man has ever loved—then so have I!

~~~
If bells have tolled a funeral
Where love, once treasured, now has died,
If love lies cold within its tomb,
If dreams have ever died—then so have mine…
If love was slain one autumn night
So broken dreams have filled my eyes,
What hope remains for crippled hearts?
If dreams have ever died—then so have mine!
~~~

If love can triumph over death,
If Christ will dry the tears I cry,
If hope can die and rise again:
As Christ has always loved—now so must I…

For love’s not weighed by pounding hearts,
But by the grace of Christ applied!
Our love’s conveyed by what we give—
As Christ has always loved—now so must I!

~~~
If love can sprout from dying dreams,
If wounded hearts can heal and fly,
If love has taught my heart what’s best,
If man has ever loved—then so have I…
I really like this poems. I think it's one of my favorites that I've read on here. =D It's amazing to think how God can heal a broken heart and give it hope and help it love again . . . I've seen God work like that in the life of a special friend of mine. It's amazing to watch God work and change people. Still . . . sometimes I fear having a broken heart. I've never really loved before, not in any kind of romantic relationship, and that's something I'm really looking forward to, but . . . I'm afraid to let others in and give away parts of myself, my deepest thoughts, feelings, and secrets.
Your poems always seem to tell a story, this one especially so. lol, poetry always seems to have some deeper meaning. I think it's really neat that you can express yourself through it and then post it on the internet for anyone to see. I'm not sure that I could do that, but I'm glad that you have. I always enjoy reading your poems and get a lot of encouragement out of them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at gameday tomorrow!
Yes, I struggle with the same thing... But trust is a beautiful thing when it is cultivated and cared for, and I think that God created us to need and desire relationships of trust.
Thanks, that is an encouragement. I was disappointed that this poem didn't do very well in the challenge, but as long as it was an encouragement to someone, I am satisfied.
