Diving in the Waves

Picture this: a young man who steps out in faith, doing something that seems radical to the world, because Christ is calling him. His dreams come crashing down, and he wonders why Christ called him to walk by faith if it was going to result in such a mess. But then he finds that Christ is standing by his side with a smile on his face, and he takes Christ’s hand and leaps forward into whatever comes next, whether it involves the greatest joys or the severest trials.

Diving in the Waves

I stepped out on the water
Where Jesus called my name,
And was knocked down by a wave—

I thought I was drowning,
But found I didn’t sink,
And when I looked up I saw Jesus
Standing at my side
With a smile on His face—

So I leapt up on the waves
And dove into their midst,
Then leapt and dove again,
With laughter beating down my tears
And a joy that breaks through the night.

Fragrance of Life

An act of love becomes a flower
Which offers fragrance to the air,
That all might breathe with deep delight,
And know that God is working here!

What is Faith?

This poem was written in response to the question “What is faith?”

What is Faith?

To step on water even though
You know it cannot hold your weight,
Because it’s Jesus calling you
All former fears and doubts abate—

To grasp your cross and follow Him
Though all the world calls you a fool;
When laws of fame have held you back,
To cut your chains and break the rules—

To mount the walls few souls have dared,
To fight the sins which throw you down;
To walk ’round cities seven times,
Then join the Church for the attack—

To taste a glimpse of glory
That far exceeds where Moses stood,
To follow in Christ’s footsteps
And see the face of God!

Closed and Open Doors

On Saturday I made the final payment on the mortgage of my condominium. I am praising God for allowing me to get out of debt so soon, and granting me so many blessings. It is interesting though, to look back and realize that if I had my dreams come true a couple of years ago, I would not have my condominium paid off today. God has brought me where I am today, and I am thankful for where He has me.

Closed and Open Doors

It’s not as if I hadn’t tried
To open up another door;
It just was slammed right in my face,
And all my knocks have been ignored—

So I am here today because
My Father pushed me towards this path,
But here, where every door is open
I see His faithfulness at last—

I’m thankful for this door, revealing
Such blessings I have never known;
Once led through paths of sacrifice,
I now taste the fruit that God had sown!

The God of Monday

I think it is interesting how quickly our emotions as humans can change from happiness to depression. But God is God, no matter how we feel, and He can take us past our feelings into a joy that never dies.

The God of Monday

The frost of the morning still rests on my heart;
The cool of the evening still flows in my soul—
The joy found on Sunday is lost in the ash,
The fire is now dying, my spirit grown cold—

But God is the ruler of Monday mornings
Just as He controlled all the joy found before—
Depression is futile—as we look to Him
He brings us the sunrise and shows He is Lord!

Worry's Cure

Worrying about our lives shows a lack of trust. If we can truly learn to believe that God's working everything for our good, we won't worry about anything!

Worry’s Cure

The epidemic causing panic
Spreads faster than the worst of plagues;
A fear can cause my faith to vanish,
When chance of harm is ever so vague—

But He who’s taking care of sparrows,
Is holding me with care as well,
And every time that I have stumbled
His hands caught me before I fell—

So I will hold my Father’s hand,
For trust is worry’s greatest cure;
The winds can blow around my heart,
But here in Christ I am secure!

First Blossom

This poem can be an inspiration to be different in many areas of life, but I wrote it specifically as an encouragement to be different in the area of finding a mate / romance. Waiting on God is not easy in today's society, where the norm is to give yourself away far before the right time, but many blessings will blossom when we dare to walk in faith!

First Blossom

To be the first blossom on a rosebush
Isn’t easy,
To break the traditions of the buds,
Is a lonely path to tread;
To dare to be different
Will often bring tears to the eyes—

But all who see the lonely blossom
Are filled with delight;
And soon, the sighs of joy
Wake up the sleeping buds—
They follow in her steps,
And open to the world,
Composing a dazzling harmony
That takes the breath away
Of any strolling by—

All because a lonely blossom
Dared to be different…
